Our Story.

Hi & Salam Alaikum. I’m Chanelle and I am the founder of iBuyYa Abaya

I’m a 30 yr old convert to islam, that was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

If it weren't for student grants 3 yrs ago, I would have never been able to make my modest wardrobe a reality. Clothes are expensive. Modesty and hiding your body shape is expensive. Finding pieces that suit you and provide modesty are equally as hard these days. Options are limited- especially for a tall girl like me.

This requires covers for top and bottom, under garments and much more.

As a 3 year old half veil niqabi, 12 year old convert to islam, and being in an an all Christian family, I have had to stand alone in most of my journey so far.

I'm a single widowed mum to an almost 9 yr old son, I'm in school,

& there is quite a lot of generational trauma within my family.

Working through the PTSD  is a real task,

& to say my hijab journey hasn't been easy, would be an under statement.

The hijab and modesty have many meanings in different cultures.

In the end, a woman and her form of hijab is between her and God.

No one else. No one understands more than me the difference between being immodest and modest. The difference between having my hijab on, and having my hijab off.

I have had experiences in both worlds.

This has instilled a passion, understanding and willingness

within me to see that all our sisters feel protected, comfortable and stylish,

in the most modest way possible  to them.

You would be surprised how judging someone less, trying to understand them more, and making these simple things more accessible to them, can bring them closer to modesty and God  with little to no effort, nor force. Sub7anAllah.

I want all my sisters; girls and women, muslims and non muslims, those who have had to face discrimination, bullying, ostracizing, and lack of peace in their attire,

to feel liberated in Modesty. Like how my hijab has liberated me.

In turn this will make it easy for everyone

to feel good about themselves.

Like how I do today, alhamdulilah.

Modesty is not restriction, its power.
